Just heard that Steve has died, far too young. I remember Steve from his first days in Marsham Street when he looked so young that people said they thought child labour had been abolished! A few years later our team had contacts with him when it was clear that he had potential far beyond his then position. And in my later years in DfT it was always a pleasure to speak with Steve because you knew he would do what he could to help you, or else if Steve needed some help with a problem you were more than happy to return his previous kindnesses to you. Apart from that, he was just such a friendly, cheerful person that he helped make the stresses of work much more bearable. Sadly our paths never crossed again after my retirement. May he rest in peace and rise in glory. Martin.
