I had the pleasure of being with Steve on many occasions but my memories at the WRA conference are most clear. Steve was the consummate professional and very knowledgeable about all things highways. Such a wise person to bounce ideas off and a good understanding of the politics behind where to access funding etc. But it was out of work where you saw Steve's gentle and generous persona - witty and fun to be with.
