On the day of your funeral, it feels somewhat fitting that the weather is unseasonably wet and there has been flooding in parts in the country. Although the pandemic has meant funerals are limited affairs to close family. It will not dint the quiet moments that many of your colleagues and friends will have thinking of the greatness you brought to the sector and your legacy.

I’m unbelievably saddened to hear this. I became close to Steve when working at Bombardier, he was incredibly supportive of light rail and a joy to work with. Definitely gone too soon, best wishes to Carol and Amy x

Just heard that Steve has died, far too young. I remember Steve from his first days in Marsham Street when he looked so young that people said they thought child labour had been abolished! A few years later our team had contacts with him when it was clear that he had potential far beyond his then position. And in my later years in DfT it was always a pleasure to speak with Steve because you knew he would do what he could to help you, or else if Steve needed some help with a problem you were more than happy to return his previous kindnesses to you. Apart from that, he was just such a friendly, cheerful person that he helped make the stresses of work much more bearable. Sadly our paths never crossed again after my retirement. May he rest in peace and rise in glory. Martin.
